Learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (E.Y.F.S.)
Ofsted 2020 'Children get off to a secure start in early years.'
Every child deserves the best start in life to enable them to fulfil their potential. We recognise that every child is unique and that all children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. Windmill Nursery provides an exciting curriculum that follows your child's interests and needs in the E.Y.F.S ' 7 Areas of Learning'
The 4 prime areas (for inspiring curiosity, enthusiasm for learning and forming relationships) are communication and language; physical development; and personal, social and emotional development. The 3 specific areas (through which the prime areas are strengthened and applied) are literacy; mathematics; understanding of the world and expressive arts and design.
Ofsted 2020 'Pupils get off to a great start in early years because phonics is taught consistently and effectively by well trained staff.'
The E.Y.F.S. also focuses on the Characteristics of Effective Learning (playing and exploring; active learning; and creating and thinking critically). These characteristics underpin learning and development across all areas and support a child to be an effective and motivated learner.
Your Child's Progress and Development In Nursery, children are observed during play and in adult-led activities. These ongoing observations and assessments help us to understand each child’s needs and interests and carefully plan activities to support their next steps.
We use a secure online learning journal, Tapestry, to celebrate your child's learning and development with photos, videos and observations. This helps us build a very special record of your child’s experiences, development and learning journey through their early years at Windmill Nursery and Mill Lane School.
We strongly value our partnership with parents and carers. Please see us if you would like to discuss your child’s progress or have any concerns. We also offer parent consultations (with evening appointments), twice a year and on transition to Reception, we provide a summary report of each child's development at Nursery.
