Learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (E.Y.F.S.)
Every child deserves the best start in life to enable them to fulfil their potential. We recognise that every child is unique and that all children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. Windmill Nursery provides an exciting curriculum that follows your child's interests and needs in the E.Y.F.S 'Areas of Learning'
The prime areas of learning (for inspiring curiosity, enthusiasm for learning and forming relationships)
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Personal, social and emotional development
The specific areas of learning (through which the prime areas are strengthened and applied)
- Understanding of the world
- Expressive arts and design
The E.Y.F.S. also focuses on the Characteristics of Effective Learning. These are the ways in which a child engages with other people and their environment by 'playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically'. The characteristics underpin learning and development across all areas and support a child to be an effective and motivated learner.
Observations and Assessment In Nursery, children are observed during play and in adult-led activities. These ongoing observations and assessments help us to understand your child’s needs and interests and to carefully plan activities to support their next steps. Each child's development and progress is assessed and recorded using the ‘Early Years Outcomes’ in his/her Learning Journey booklet. Observations and any WOW moments from parents and carers are a very welcome contribution.
Your Child’s Progress and Development We strongly value the partnership with our parents and carers. Please see us if you would like to discuss your child’s progress or have any concerns. We offer parent consultations (with evening appointments), twice a year and on transition to Reception, we provide a summary report of your child's development at Nursery.
